Our story

How we got here

Ten years, three continents, and one very long way to the Yarra Valley.

2017

Canberra

How it began

We met at the Australian National University in early 2017, when Lach started his degree. We were both part of the Tuckwell Scholarship program, which meant we kept finding ourselves in the same rooms. Our first date was at Monster in Canberra, and the rest, as they say, is history.

2020

Richmond · Oxford

A pandemic, and a very long distance

After graduating, we moved to Richmond in Melbourne, just as the pandemic began. Then Lach was accepted to do his PhD at the University of Oxford, and with borders closed we couldn't travel to see each other. We became very good at video calls, and very sure of what we wanted.

Taken on the first day of 2020. That morning we woke to a headline that the WHO had identified a novel coronavirus in Wuhan, China. We were looking forward to an exciting year of travel. Little did we know what was ahead.

2023

Washington DC · New York · Geneva

Three cities, two continents

Bryce won a Fulbright and headed to Georgetown to complete his LLM, and Lach moved to the United States to join him. There was a US election along the way, and plenty of dinner-table conversation about it. Then Bryce took a job in Geneva, and the map got even bigger.

December 2024

Melbourne

The question

In December 2024, in the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne, we got engaged. It was the easiest yes of our lives.

We get married in the Yarra Valley, with everyone we love. Ten years, three continents and a lot of airports later, we can't wait to celebrate with you.

Dress code: cocktail attire

We're asking guests to dress in cocktail attire. Think of it as a step up from "nice dinner out" and a step down from black tie. Gentlemen, please wear a jacket and tie; a full suit is lovely but not required. Ladies, a cocktail dress or dressy separates are perfect. Wear something you feel great in, and comfortable shoes you can dance in.

Travelling from overseas?

International guests

We're so excited that many of you are making the journey. One important thing to sort out early is your entry permission for Australia.

You'll need an ETA or a visa

Anyone travelling to Australia who is not an Australian or New Zealand citizen needs either an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA), which is the Australian equivalent of the US ESTA, or a visa.

Which one you need depends on your passport. The Australian Government's visa finder will tell you in a few minutes. Please check well ahead of your travel dates.

Need a local contact?

If your ETA or visa application asks for a contact in Australia, you're welcome to list Lach or Bryce. Just email us first so we have your details and know to expect it.

There is plenty of parking at the venue. Some taxis operate in the area, and limited ride-sharing is available. The venue will also pre-book some taxis. Please plan ahead for how you'll get to and from the venue.
